First kick of meeting in Murcia

09/04/2025

The Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia, leader of the Heatsafe project, will host all partners of the EU-funded project next month.

This meeting will allow the partnership to meet in person, and the coordination of the more technical aspects of the project will be more effective.

The partners will also visit the city of Cartagena, as the city council of the port city is a partner of Heatsafe, which among its pilot actions, will map heat shelters.

    HEATSAFE METHODOLOGY

    Comprehensive diagnosis

Comprehensive analysis of each area by drawing up a thermal vulnerability map, integrating physical indicators together with socio-economic factors.

Development of local heat action plans

They will promote interdisciplinary approaches that include meteorology, healthcare, urban planning, and community engagement to foster resilience and minimize the effects of extreme heat on populations. Validated by governance structures and based on comprehensive diagnosis

    Citizen participation and multilevel governance

Establishment of new governance structures with a multilevel and multisectoral approach, encouraging better collaboration and response to extreme heat events between administrations, civil society and technical experts.

    Application of evidence-based interventions

1.Creation and reinforcement of climate shelters, such as safe spaces against heatwaves (i.e. adaptation of public buildings).

2.Implementation of immediate response solutions, aimed at mitigating the effects of high temperatures in critical situations.

3.Development of awareness and education campaigns, aimed at increasing public awareness of thermal hazards and ways to protect against them
